Important Information For Parents

Smoking:  There is NO SMOKING allowed anywhere at the Soccer Complex!!  This is a Village Ordinance and will be enforced!!

Parking: Please DO NOT park or trespass on the grass or driveway to the right of the large field.  These areas are private property and don't belong to the league.   Please do not allow children to play on this, or any driveways, or in the corn/soybean field.  Please obey all other posted signage!  If you choose to ignore the signage and/or cause damage to town or private property, you will be held liable.

Shirts:  Every player will receive a team t-shirt.  Every coach will receive a t-shirt free of charge for him/her self, plus one extra for an assistant.  Any additional assistant coach shirt(s) will need to be paid for.  Once again, we will be making parent shirts available in your team's color with the Mt. Gilead Soccer logo.  Please order them when you register your child(ren), or you may email Mia Shotwell at mgsl@redbird.net.  The deadline for ordering parent shirts will be the same as the registration deadline of July 28th so we can get all the shirts delivered on time.  The price of a parent shirt is $10 and checks should be made out to M.G.S.L.  No shirts will be printed/ordered without payment in advance.

Pictures:  Are scheduled to be taken the first week.  Payment will be due when pictures are taken.

Trophies:  Trophies will be given to every child at the end of the season.  See your child's coach for further details.

Most Important!!

The purpose of the Mt. Gilead Soccer League is to provide fun and recreation for the children and to encourage teamwork, good sportsmanship, and to build self-esteem.

We cannot do this without your cooperation!! None of our coaches or referees are perfect.  Our children are not professional soccer players. Please refrain from negative criticism of the referees, coaches, and especially of the children.  If negative behavior occurs, whether it be by adult or child, player, coach, or spectator, it is the policy of the League that the referee first request that such behavior cease.  If it does not, and the behavior is caused by a parent, coach, or spectator, the game will be suspended and not replayed.  Irregardless of the score, the forfeit (win) will be given to the opposing team. If a player is causing repeated negative behavior on the field, especially that which endangers another player, the offender will be given one warning, and if similar behavior occurs again during the same match, that player will be removed from the game.  We want to set a good example for the children, give them a positive experience, and keep them safe.

Please visit the Handbook pages for further clarifications, and for the rules/policies of the Mt. Gilead Soccer League.

Other Useful Soccer Information:

Soccer matches will be played on Saturday mornings with perhaps an occasional game during the week, as arranged between coaches, referees, and parents. The 2010 game season will run from Sat., Sept. 11th until approximately Sat., Oct. 30th. (weather and number of teams may affect season dates)

If bad weather is an issue, please call your child's coach prior to a game, or you can receive a game or field update by calling: 419-949-4337. Generally games will be played in the rain/snow unless accompanied by thunder and lightning or severe cold.  You may also check back with the main MGSL page, as cancellations will be posted.

Practice times and locations will be established by the coaches and are generally conducted once or twice per week. Parents, please be sure to pick up your child promptly after practices.

Players must wear shin guards when playing and practicing. Referees will check prior to games to be sure players are wearing shin guards. Your child will not be permitted to play in a game without them. This is for their own protection. Better protection can be achieved by wearing the shin guards under socks. Shin guards can be purchased at Wal-Mart or most sports stores.

Players may wish to purchase their own soccer ball for use at practices and for practice at home.

Ball size is as follows:
       Ages 5-7:     #3 ball
       Ages 8-9:     #4 ball
       Ages 10+:    #5 ball

**Please make sure any equipment or personal belongings brought to the field have your child's name on them!**

Water Bottles: Each child should bring a full water bottle (but not ice cold!!) to EVERY practice and game.

Shoes: Shoes designed for soccer work best on the field (particularly if the field is wet), but are not required. Baseball shoes are allowed IF the front cleat (toe cleat) is removed (A hacksaw and sandpaper or file work well to remove this cleat). Again, referees will check prior to games to make certain this has been done. No spiked shoes will be allowed.

Gloves: It is often helpful, though not required for goalkeepers to wear keeper gloves. These help protect the hands and usually makes a slippery ball easier to handle. Field players may also elect to wear regular or field gloves on cold days.

Please Note: NO baseball caps or visors are permitted.  Winter hats (commonly called "ski" hats or "woolies")  or soft, flat ear/head band warmers are fine in cold/rainy weather.  Jewelry is also not permitted.  It can cause an injury to the player or to others.  "Stud" earrings from recent piercings must be taped with medical tape if they need to be left in.  These things will be looked for by referees.   We care about the safety of the children and don't want to see any of them hurt by something that could have been avoided.
